Stortorget, The Big Square is small public square in Gamla Stan. It is oldest square in Stockholm, what has been in use since the Middle Age. On one side of the Stortorget is Stock Exchange Building (next below), where’s the Swedish Academy, Nobel Museum and Nobel Library. It has been designed by Erik Palmstedt and built 1773–1776.
Sankt Nikolai kyrka (Church of St. Nicholas), commonly known as Storkyrkan, (The Great Church) is about 50 metres from Stortorget and next to Roayl Palace. It’s architectural style is Swedish Brick Gothic. Storkyrkan has been mentioned first time in 1279 and was built originally by Birger Jarl, the founder of the city itself.
